UPDATE: An Aurora resident, Paul W. Eggert, 67, was airlifted to a hospital after suffering injuries in a crash Monday morning at Route 47 and Galena Road in Yorkville, according to Yorkville police.
Police said they responded to a crash at 7:30 a.m. along with Bristol-Kendall Fire Protection District paramedics.
Police said the accident occurred when a semi tractor trailer driven by Kenneth J. Stade, 56, of Johnsburg, that was proceeding southbound on Route 47 traveled through a red light at Galena Road and struck Eggert's PT Cruiser which was proceeding westbound on Galena Road.
Police said Eggert's vehicle was pushed into a guardrail at the intersection, entrapping Eggert.
Paramedics were able to extricate the Eggert from the vehicle, and he was airlifted to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, police said.
Police said Stade was not injured but was cited for disobeying a traffic control device.
Southbound lanes of Route 47 and eastbound lanes of Galena Road were closed Monday morning while the Illinois State Police conducted an accident reconstruction, police said. The roads were reopened at around 12:30 p.m., police said.
