Legion Riders keep busy during hiatus from riding

The American Legion Riders Post 181 from Sandwich is on hiatus from riding during the winter months. So just what does this organization do during the winter months?

In November, the group donated to the Franklin Mall Project in Sandwich and started planning a bowling event for veterans. In December, they helped sort and deliver food for Plano’s Rockin’ Christmas. They held their Christmas Party on Dec. 21, where members and guests had a potluck supper, exchanged white elephant gifts, and competed in the ugly sweater contest. Winners of the ugly sweater contest were Bob Mauer (first place), Cherie Mauer (second place) and Bill Kolb (third place).

The group conducts its monthly meetings with a focus on rides for the summer months, plans to participate with chili cook-offs, supporting veterans, welcome home celebrations, and helping others.

The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, at the Sandwich VFW, 713 S. Main St. in Sandwich. You do not have to be a member to attend a meeting.

For information, refer to the Sandwich American Legion Riders Post 181 Facebook page.
