Letters to the Editor

Letter: Friends of the Library thanks

To the Editor:

The fifth annual “Mini Golf FUN Raiser” at the Yorkville Public Library was held on Sunday, Jan. 28, and the Friends of the Library want to thank everyone who made this event so successful. All profits will be used to fund library programs and the purchase of books. This year, nearly $6,000 was raised from this fun fundraiser and more than 310 people of all ages played golf in the library.

The Yorkville community supported this event in so many ways. Thank you to our Five Year Super Sponsors: Blackberry Oaks Golf Course, Raging Waves Water Park, Meadowvale, Chicago Advertising and Marketing, Howard Manthei, Doug and Judy Somerlot, Joe and Carolyn Panozzo, Dan Baechle and Kathi Murphy, and the Kendall County Record.

The other sponsors were York Towne Dental, Two Men and a Truck, Midland States Bank, Yorkville Eye Professionals, Synergy Financial Services, Brenart Eye Clinic, Old Second Bank, Hix Brothers Music of Aurora and Batavia, Travel Services of Yorkville, Prairie Garden Dental and Boombah.

Donations of supplies came from Sugar Grove Family Fun Center and Yorkville Community Unit School District 115. Golfers enjoyed special appearances from “Spikes” from the Joliet Slammers, the Merry Hearts Clowns, many “Star Wars” characters from the Dark Empire group organized by Jeff Frost and characters from the Costumers With a Cause organization.

Raffle items were donated by Southbank Original Barbecue, Jimmy John’s of Yorkville, Smokey’s Open Pit BBQ, Whitetail Ridge Golf Club, NCG Cinema, Pepe’s Mexican Restaurant, O’Reilly’s Auto Parts, Paramount Theater, BH Martial Arts, Raging Waves, Home Depot, Wendy’s, Yorkville Performing Arts Center (YPAC), Joliet Slammers, Starbucks Coffee, Rosati’s Pizza, Mike and Denise’s Pizzeria and Pub, Mary Nowak, Michelle Pfister, Kathi Murphy, Sue Smithmeyer, Lakeview Grille, Yorkville Flower Shoppe, Signature Cleaners, From Our Hearts Quilters and Friends of the Yorkville Library.

Decorators added so much to the 18-hole course, and we are grateful to all who added to the festive atmosphere. Players voted for their favorite hole, and the winner was Hole No.15, with a pirate theme decorated by Yorkville Public Library’s TAG (Teen Advisory Group).

Volunteers came from everywhere in the community. The entire Yorkville Library staff gave endless support. Members of the Friends of the Library worked tirelessly to make the day memorable. Thank you to Kathi Murphy, Doug Somerlot, Shelley Augustine, Sue Smithmeyer, Mary Nowak, Carol Morris, Bobbe Hahn, and the Steering Committee members for their many contributions.

Yorkville High School students were present to move the greens and equipment from the loft in the Pfister Meeting Room to both floors of the library and then back again after the event. They were energetic and extremely helpful. Thank you to coaches Dan McGuire, Tom Regnier, Tom Cerven and and their players.

Thank you, Yorkville. Plan to come to next year’s Mini Golf FUN Raiser at the library.
