To the Editor:
Thank you, from the Yorkville American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 489 to our wonderful community for their contributions to the success of the Poppy Awareness Days in Yorkville on May 8-12.
A big “thank you" to Jewel-Osco, Walgreens North and South, Mike & Denise’s, Old Second National Bank and First National Bank of Omaha for allowing us to distribute poppies in remembrance of our veterans, in exchange for donations, outside of their businesses. Thanks to Culvers and Yorkville Parks & Recreation for announcing our event on their signboards.
We also express our sincere appreciation to the businesses that allowed us to place donation cans in their businesses: Ace Hardware; Advanced Physical Medicine; Senior Services of Yorkville; BH Martial Arts; Brenart Eye Clinic; First National Bank of Omaha; City Hall; Cornish Chiropractic; Countryside Veterinary Clinic; Kendall County Courthouse; Crusade Burger Bar; Culvers; Dunkin Donuts; FNBC Bank; Heartland School; Home Depot; Kennedy Pointe; Millhurst Ale House; the Moose Lodge; Morris Hospital Yorkville Campus; Old Second Bank; Oswego Senior Center Gift Shop; Patelli’s; Pinheadz; Pizza Hut; Roadhouse Bar and Grill; Rosati’s Pizza; Rowdy’s; Silver Dollars; Smokey’s; Southern Belle’s; Steve’s Bakery; Subway; Sunfields; Tiki Tan; Ups Store; Veterans Assistance Commission; Wilson Leather; Yorkville Auto Body; and the Yorkville Intermediate School.
Thank you to the sixth grade students that entered our Poppy Poster Contest. Your patriotism was displayed with the talent in your artwork. Thanks also to Kendall Printing and the Kendall County Record for helping us raise awareness in the community with signage and news articles. A big thanks to Yorkville Cub Scout Pack 34 and members of Yorkville Special Olympics, Yorkville Legion, SAL, Riders, and Legion Auxiliary members and their family members, as well as community volunteers for manning the stations outside the businesses distributing the poppies and collecting donations.
The American Legion Auxiliary distributes poppies as part of our longstanding mission to honor the fallen and support veterans. Wear your poppy as a sign of support for those who willingly served our nation and protected our freedom. The Flanders Field poppy has become an internationally known and recognized symbol of the lives sacrificed in war and the hope that none died in vain.
Thank you to a very generous and supportive community! All Poppy fundraising proceeds go to the rehabilitation of our veterans and their families.
