Roundup: Ava Knepper, Sandwich volleyball hold off Plano

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Sandwich/Plano

Ava Knepper had 16 assists and 12 service points, Jaylynn Vana eight kills and four blocks and Casey Delphey six digs and five service points as Sandwich (17-10, 6-5) held off host Plano 25-22, 29-27.

For Plano, Kaylee Read had 17 assists, 11 points and three digs, Anna Gonzalez nine kills, four digs and two blocks, Alina Martinez three kills, three aces and three digs, Grace Stevenson four kills and Alyssa Smith eight points and five digs.

The Reapers beat Ottawa 25-21, 15-25, 25-22 on Oct. 10. Gonzalez had 12 kills, Smith eight digs, Read 19 assists and six kills and Julie Adorjan six points and two aces.

Yorkville

Bella Alvaro had six kills and three digs and Maddy Bourque 16 assists and five kills for Yorkville (13-13, 2-6) in a 25-16, 25-20 win over Joliet Central on Tuesday. Anna Flamini added nine digs and Kylie Loquercio seven digs and three blocks.

BOYS SOCCER

Plano

Leo Amezquita scored a goal assisted by Diego Heredia and Vincent Herbig scored a goal assisted by Alexis Arellano for the Reapers (4-19-1, 0-6-1) in a 7-2 loss to Streator on Oct. 8.

GIRLS GOLF

Plano

Faith Malloy shot a 96 and Kendal Flodstrom a 111 for the Reapers in the sectional meet on Monday. Mally shot a 96 and Flodstrom a 100 to lead Plano to a fourth-place finish at the regional meet Oct. 10. Lexi Gutzwiler shot a 108 and Hayden Flodstrom and Aubrey Paxton 109s.

CROSS COUNTRY

Plano

The Reapers placed eighth in the 14-team Prairie Central Invitational. Martin Diaz led the Reapers with a personal best time of 16:29, placing eighth out of 97 runners. Joshua Thoms also had a great performance placing 15th with a time of 16:48. Senior Ace Frieders, Sophomore WIll Collins, and sophomore CJ Rydzewski rounded out the top five for Plano. 

The girls team was led by senior Yali Chavez, who ran a new personal best time of 21:52. Marina Mercado, Natalie Flores, and Payton Heiden all ran new personal bests for the 2019 season.
