It didn’t happen without work.
Daffenberg started out doing club basketball in Yorkville, but through connections she and high school teammate Lindsay Harrison tried out for the Illinois Rockets travel team in seventh grade.
She went to Washington, D.C., twice with the Rockets, and played in the Nike Invitational in Louisville.
“That was one of the biggest contributors to my improvement, was playing up with those girls,” Daffenberg said. “Mechanics-wise, my shot was always sound, but it hasn’t always gone in as consistently.”
Daffenberg furthered her athletic development two summers ago by going to Acceleration Sports Performance in Naperville. She trains there for an hour a day, about three times a week for plyometrics, jumping and resistance work.
“I see [the results] mostly in basketball when I’m going to the basket,” Daffenberg said. “I’m stronger finishing, not ending up on that ground. Before, getting my body checked would throw off my shot. I feel it a little bit at the the defensive end, too. I feel quicker defensively.”
