Foxes' teammate Fox likewise got a shot of early-season confidence. Fox, third in the 3,200 at the Top Times indoor championships, ran a 5:02.57 1,600 at the Downers South Invitational. She followed that up by winning the 800 Friday, in 2:23.87.
"Felt really good. I lot faster than I thought it would be," said Fox, who never ran the open 800 before this spring. "I'm just trying to put up a good time in the 800. I want to have a good time in everything. I just went out fast at the beginning. Second mile I slowed down a lot, wish I would have controlled it more."
Fox still thinks the 3,200 is her best race – but she plans to run the 1,600 at Palatine's Distance Night next week.
"I'm so close to running sub-5 minutes, so I changed to the mile at Palatine. I want to run sub-5 minutes there," Fox said. "That's what my goal is for the next week. I want to get the mile time the best I can."
