Helped by being featured in various movies, television and comics in recent years, the sport of archery has rapidly grown. With over 26 million participants across the United States over the age of 18, plus millions more under the age of 18, the sport has spread to people of all ages.

Longtime Montgomery residents Kevin and Michelle Helwig have been involved in the sport before its recent rise in popularity, and decided to take their involvement to the next level earlier this year when they opened The Archery Place in Montgomery, a 10,582-square-foot facility dedicated to archery.

Featuring two ranges, a full-service shop, instruction, equipment rental, parties and more, the Archery Place is designed to provide all you need, regardless of your age and skill level.

In fact, while the Archery Place serves the needs of competitive archers, they provide focused instruction for children as part of various summer camps. The next summer archery camp begins soon, and you don’t want to miss out.

The camp runs from Monday through Friday, July 23-27, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Campers will learn about archery equipment, range and safety rules, be range captain, stance and posture, anchor point, aiming, shot execution, shooting form, scoring and play fun archery games using all of the skills learned in camp. Campers will earn medals for each skill learned.

For just $150 per person, campers will experience the curriculum from Archery 1 and Archery 2 classes ($100 value); receive a Range Captain Whistle ($5 value), five medals for each of the key skills learned ($25 value), a 2-for-1 return pass for “Bow-Mageddon Open Gym ($20 value), and an “Art-chery” T-shirt ($25 value).

The camp is for children ages 8 and up, and the sign up deadline is July 22.
